Course Description

This full time PLC course offers a practical and theoretical introduction to the world of nursing, community care and health-related careers.

Modules:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Introduction to Nursing
  • Safety and Health at Work
  • Care Support
  • Care of the Older Person
  • Human Growth and Development
  • Occupational First Aid
  • Communications
  • *Work Experience

* Work experience is an integral part of this course. Students must obtain one day per week work experience for the academic year. The day will be specified by the course specialist. There will also be a two week block placement during the year.

Entry Requirements:

  • Leaving Certifiate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of interview
  • Mature applicants welcome
  • Applicants will be required to undertake Garda Vetting

Fees:

  • There are no tuition fees payable by EU Nationals. Non EU Nationals who do not meet the exemption requirements are liable for the full tuition fee of €3,653 as per instructions of the Department of Education and Science.
  • The Department of Education and Skills have introduced a Programme Participant Contribution of €200. The following categories are exempt from this contribution:
    • Full medical card holders in their own right and their dependent children.
    • Those eligible under the Student Grant Scheme.
    • Those in receipt of BTEA or VTOS allowances.
  • Student Services (payable by all students): €150 (this consists of a student services fee of €100 and a non-refundable fee of €50)
  • FETAC Examination Fee: €50 (Exemptions apply)
  • Occupational First Aid: €100 approx.
