Course DescriptionObjectivesThe purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently and under supervision in a range of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) settings and/or to progress to higher education and training. It is ideal for both school-leavers and for mature persons seeking a formal qualification. Course StructureOne day Work Experience per week in a recognised childcare facility. Certification is based on attaining a pass in a number of modular examinations, along with completion of on-going assignments and assessments, as required by FETAC. This award was developed through the new National Common Award System (CAS) and replaces the previous Childcare award. The total credit value required for this certification is 120. Course Content

FeesThe Department of Education and Skills PLC Levy of €200 (exemptions apply to certain categories) plus student services charge and materials fee of €300. ProgressionLearners who have successfully completed this award can expect to find employment in a variety of education/care settings within the Irish childcare sector. This award also facilitates entry on a competitive basis to a range of third level institutions nationwide leading to awards at the next or higher levels of the National Framework of Qualifications.
