Special Needs Learning Support PDF Print E-mail

South Tipperary VEC has an open enrolment policy in our schools and colleges. We work with National Council for Special Education (NCSE) and the Department of Education and Skills (DES) to ensure that the education needs of all students, including those with a disability or other special education needs, are identified and provided for.

Students with Special Educational Needs
The Principal makes an application, through the VEC, to the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) for additional resources to cater for students with Special Needs. On behalf of the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) the Special Educational Needs Organiser (SENO) makes decisions on the following:
  • Additional teaching support for children with special educational needs
  • Special Needs Assistant (SNA) support
  • School transport for children with disabilities with special educational needs
  • Other resources e.g. assistive technology
Parents wishing to make contact with their child’s SENO may do so through the Principal of their child’s school.

Non-National and Traveller Students
The Principal makes an application, through the VEC, to the Department of Education and Skills to provide additional teaching hours to cater for Non-National students (with significant English language deficits) and Traveller students.
