Adult Learning Scheme

This is a confidential service for adults who want help to improve their reading, writing, spelling and basic maths.

The Adult Learning Scheme headquarters is based in Clonmel at our Adult Literacy Centre. Our other four permanent centres are located in Tipperary Town, Cahir, Cashel and Carrick-on-Suir. The scheme is co-ordinated by our Adult Literacy Organiser (ALO), Mary Roche. Learners work in groups or on a one-to-one basis. The groups are small and supportive and learners develop their confidence along with basic education skills. Tutors work on an equal basis with learners. Tuition is available mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Programmes offered are based on individual needs, these could be:

Writing cheques
Helping children with homework
Writing notes to the teacher
Reading the newspaper and books
Filling in forms
Telling the time
Understanding basic maths
Using a dictionary
Reading, writing, spelling and communication skills for job seeking
Reading instructions

FÁS/VEC Return to Education programme, for individuals on Community Employment schemes
Return to Learning Initiative - workplace programme in partnership with South Tipperary Local Authority
Skills for work - workplace learning in partnership with FÁS
Intensive Tuition in Adult Basic Education (ITABE)
Literacy and Computers (e-learning)
Family Literacy
Literacy and preparation for the Driver Theory Test
