COMMENCEMENT OF SECTION 30 OF THE TEACHING COUNCIL ACT, 2001

Please Note: Under section 30 of the Teaching Council Act 2001 teachers employed in recognised schools must be registered with the Teaching Council in order to be paid from public monies by the Department of Education and Skills or a VEC.

The Minister recently announced that section 30 will commence on 1 November 2013. Once section 30 is commenced, the Department of Education and Skills and VECs will be prohibited by law from paying unregistered people employed in teaching positions in schools except in very exceptional circumstances and for very short time periods.

The Department will, through a number of communications, be publicising requirements in relation to pay and registration over the coming weeks and months in order to ensure that teachers are aware of these requirements. People who are working as teachers in recognised schools, but who are not currently registered with the Teaching Council, will be advised to apply immediately to the Council for registration.

VECs ARE REPLACED BY ETBs

The implementation of the Vocational Education Act of 1930 saw 33 VECs provide a quality education service to the people of Ireland for almost 83 years. The VECs have now finally concluded the current chapter in their long and illustrious journey. On 1st July, 2013; following the introduction of the Education and Training Boards Act, 2013; the 33 VECs have ceased to exist and are now replaced by the 16 Education and Training Boards (ETBs.)

On 1st July, 2013; South Tipperary VEC and North Tipperary VEC amalgamated to become one organisation, which is known as Tipperary Education and Training Board.

The establishment of Tipperary ETB represents an exciting development in the delivery of educational and training services in the County. We are committed to continuing to provide a quality and efficient service to all our clients in the County.

In the interim, the VEC websites www.tippsouthvec.ie and www.tippnorthvec.ie will continue to operate as will the staff email accounts. Tipperary ETB is currently working on devising a dedicated website for TETB and setting up new email addresses to reflect the formation of Tipperary ETB. These new contact details will be officially released in the coming weeks.

Tipperary ETB will operate from two locations - the head office located at Church Road, Nenagh and the sub office located at Western Road, Clonmel. For contact details for bother offices, please see below.
